Thomas King was sworn in as Property Assessor on Nov. 17, 2014. He is the son of Karen King and the late Johnny D. King. He is married to Dr. Danielle King, and they have a son, John Caperton “Cape”.
Mr. King grew up in Sevier County and is a graduate of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. He was a Tennessee Scholar, National Merit Scholar, and cum laude graduate of The University of Tennessee. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Tennessee with a dual concentration in Finance and Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

Mr. King has a Real Estate Brokerage License and worked in the real estate field for eight years prior to serving as Sevier County’s Property Assessor. As a commercial real estate broker, he managed over 100,000 square feet of commercial space. He also performed multiple Broker Price Opinions (BPO) regarding land valuations. He has experience in appraisal and management of commercial and residential properties. Thomas has also been an employee at the District Attorney's office, an employee at a law office, and a horseback-riding guide in the Smoky Mountains.

“I grew up on a farm in Sevier County raising cattle and growing tobacco. My first jobs were mowing the neighbor’s yard and picking blackberries.  I know what it means to sweat and work hard. Today I use many of those life lessons that I learned growing up, and I still love to ride horses and work on the farm.
My father and mother taught me that the most important things in life, after God and family, are a person’s integrity and reputation. This is why I strive so hard every day at the Property Assessor’s office to not only do what is fair for taxpayers, but to also truly listen and understand their concerns.
I know that common sense and kindness to others can go a long way. My campaign slogan is: “Thomas King, Your friendly Property Assessor,” which is a slogan that my father always used. I am pleased to honor him with his old phrase (I know he is smiling down at me from Heaven!). I want to spread the message to taxpayers that my door is always open and that they are always welcome.
I am equipped with the education, experience, friendly demeanor, and work ethic to continue serving as Sevier County’s Property Assessor. Your support on March 1 is greatly appreciated.
